Innovations made on Biodiversity Survey including Inventory of NTFPs in Odisha presented in OFSDS PMU

A meeting on Innovations made on Biodiversity Survey including Inventory of Non Timber Forest Products (NTFPs) in Odisha was held on 25th October 2018 at the Conference Hall of PMU, OFSDS. The meeting was chaired by Shri L.K.Tewari, IFS, Project Director, OFSDS. A detailed presentation was made by Shri E.L.Yanger Aier, IFS, CCF-cum-Director (Commercial and Operation), OFSDC Limited on the innovations made on Biodiversity Survey including inventory of NTFPs in Odisha. The comprehensive report was prepared by the Working Plan Division of PCCF, Odisha and Shri Iyer was leading the study. He deliberated on the objective, methodology and outcome of the study in a detailed presentation of GIS Maps, Survey of local market and consumptions and available varieties of NTFPs in pilot districts of Khurda and Nayagarh.

The study used 9 different forms to collect data from the identified locals and the methodology of the study was to survey 100mX100m strip plots for each range selected for it across different divisions of the state. The study adopted Remote Sensing/GIS, Field inventories, Household Consumptions Survey, Survey of Local Market to prepare the inventory of NTFPs in Odisha.

PD, OFSDP shared that OFSDP Phase-II would form a Cell on NTFP enumerations in Odisha and it will prepare a holistic study report on NTFP products across the state. It was also announced that an Advisory Committee will be constituted by the cell with experts on NTFP enumerations and study as members to support the study.
