14th National Workshop of JICA Assisted Forestry Projects in India organised by OFSDP-II
The 14th National Workshop of JICA Assisted Forestry Projects organised at the Hotel Mayfair Convention in Bhubaneswar from 11th to 13th February, 2026. Centered on the timely theme, "Future Ready Forestry: Climate Resilience, Digital Transformation & Sustainable Wood Economies," the event marks a significant milestone in the national dialogue regarding the integration of technology and sustainability within India’s forestry sector. The three-day workshop, was jointly organized by the Odisha Forestry Sector Development Project, Phase-II (OFSDP-II) under Forest, Environment & Climate Change Department, Govt of Odisha and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
The workshop was formally inaugurated by Shri Ganesh Ram Singhkhuntia, the Hon'ble Minister for Forest, Environment and Climate Change, Government of Odisha on 11th February 2026. In his opening address, the Minister emphasized the critical role that healthy forest ecosystems play in addressing the global climate crisis, ensuring ecological security, and sustaining the livelihoods of millions. He specifically highlighted the transformative impact of international cooperation, extending his gratitude to the Government of Japan and JICA for their continued commitment to protecting India's natural heritage and its most vulnerable populations.
Speaking as the Chief Guest at the valedictory session, Shri Bhaskar Jyoti Sharma, Principal Secretary, Forest, Environment & Climate Change Department, Government of Odisha, underscored the power of coordinated efforts. He noted that the workshop demonstrated how collaboration between states and international partners like JICA can accelerate India’s journey toward a climate-resilient forestry sector. Shri Sharma also interacted with community members from Vana Surakshya Samiti (VSS) and Self-Help Groups (SHGs), reiterating Odisha’s commitment to livelihood support initiatives and ecological restoration.
Centered around 7 themes and 3 technical sessions, the workshop saw participation of 30+ speakers and panelists, 12 participating forest departments across India and nearly 200 delegates representing Academic Experts, forest Department Officers, International Organizations, Think Tank Representatives, Private Sector Representatives along with representatives of JICA.
